Electric Parallel Gripper WSG 50

The WSG 50 is a compact electric gripper with integrated control unit. The gripper can be controlled by Ethernet TCP/IP, Profibus-DP or CAN bus interface.
Its high positioning accuracy and the integrated force measurement and control using the optional sensor finger allow safe and precise handling of sensitive parts to be grasped. It satifies customer needs in challenging automation solutions across all sectors whenever high flexibility and/or sensitivity during the grasping process are necessary.

Integrated control as standard

The WSG 50 comes with an integrated grasping control, so the usual external motion controller for electric grippers is not necessary any more. Instead, the gripper can be controlled directly using the integrated interfaces for Profibus-DP, Ethernet TCP/IP, CAN or RS-232. Additionally, the WSG 50 supports custom I/O interfaces, which brings maximum flexibility when integrating the gripper into more complex systems.

Web based user interface - intuitive operation from the start

Being the first gripper with an integrated web server, the WSG 50 can be easily configured, supervised and remotely maintained during operation using a common web browser. The user interface has been designed for convenience and intuitive operation. There is no need to install additional software.
To protect the WSG 50 from unauthorized access, it has an integrated user administration allowing to set appropriate access rights for each user.
The web based user interface offers detailed access to the gripper's system state. Integrated tools like the Profibus Monitor and the Command Statistics help to quickly integrate the gripper into existing equipment.

Gripper sending e-mails

The WSG 50 is capable of sending status e-mails using the Ethernet interface to inform about its operational state. E-mails can be submitted when entering a critical state (e.g. emergency stop or communication error) but also when losing parts during the handling process. This enables a fast overview over the gripper's state - no more time consuming error search!

Functional extensions using the built-in Scripting Engine

The WSG 50 has a considerable command set covering a huge set of possible applications. However, especially when constructing customer-specific facilities, there are often special demands that require adjustments to the device's control technology. This is why the WSG 50 has been equipped with a user-friendly Scripting Engine. The scripting language allows to adjust all gripper functions to meet customer-specific requirements. Program code and data can be saved onto an integrated memory card.

Sensor interface in basic jaws

To allow the straightforward integration of sensors into the gripper jaws, the WSG 50 is the first gripper integrating an electronic interface into the basic jaws. This interface is connected to the gripper control and enables direct consideration of sensor measurements during the grasping process. We offer the following types of fingers:

  • Universal finger WSG-F
  • Force Measurement Finger WSG-FMF
  • Finger with Tactile Transducer WSG-DSA
Optimized for handling technology

The WSG 50 command set includes all necessary commands from simple finger positioning up to complex grasping commands that reflect the whole grasping process using the integrated recognition of parts to be grasped. This leaves more power to the high-level process control.

Your choice: Force control by sensor or emulation

As an input requirement for the grasping process, the WSG 50 expects the grasping force in Newton. If a Force Measurement Finger is installed, it will be automatically detected during system start and used for the force control. This offers maximum precision during the grasping process. If no Force Measurement Finger is available, the grasping force is automatically approximated from the engine's power consumption - a good choice to handle insensitive parts to be grasped.
