WRT 101 - A Sense of Touch for Service Robots

With the sensor system WRT 101 Weiss Robotics provides a tactile sensor solution, which equips the dextrous hand SDH-2 from SCHUNK with an artificial sense of touch.

The safe handling of objects with only partially known geometry is a major challenge for today's service robotics. Reactive approaches are particularly promising here, where the finger position is continuosly adjusted during grasping, based on the contact information to the gripping part.

Completely Integrated Solution

The tactile sensor are precisely adapted to the finger shape of the SDH-2, so the contact pressure profile during grasping an object can be accurately detected. Especially for reactive grasping applications, the WRT 101 convinces with its high spatial and temporal resolution. Each three tactile transducers of the type DSA 9205 (proximal phalance) and DSA 9210 (fingertip) that are integrated into the palm give a total of 480 highly sensitive measurement points that securely detect any contact with the gripping part even on light loads. The required cabling for the sensor system is done inside the fingers, so that no additional interference contours exist. In addition, the sensor controller of the type DSACON32-M is integrated in the hand, too, and can be directly accessed via the standard electrical interface at hand's flange.

Increase in Productivity

For the realization of reactive grasping algorithms, Weiss Robotics offers its DSA-Explorer data acquisition software and a library for real-time processing of tactile sensor data under Matlab/Simulink, which allows a rapid implementation and testing of new approaches. This gives you the possibility to achieve your results without the time- and power consuming implementation of a personal test environment.
